I am excited to announce that I am currently going through the application process for membership in the Southern Highland Craft Guild!
For those who may not be familiar with the organization, the Guild was founded in 1930 and supports more than 800 juried artisans across the Southern Highlands. Through craft fairs, retail galleries, educational programs, and demonstrations, the Guild promotes both traditional and contemporary craft while helping makers build sustainable businesses.
The membership application process is thorough. The first stage involves submitting images of work along with detailed information about artistic background, education, materials, techniques, and creative process. I recently learned that I successfully passed this portion of the review.
The final step is an in-person jury evaluation, where Guild members examine the work firsthand and assess both craftsmanship and design. One option for completing this review is to exhibit in the Guild's semi-annual craft fair here in Asheville.

I've attended the fair many times over the years as a visitor and have always appreciated the quality and diversity of work represented there. It will be exciting to experience the event from the other side of the booth and to have my work reviewed as part of the membership process.
As a result, I will be exhibiting at the Southern Highland Craft Guild's Craft Fair from July 16-19 at Harrah's Cherokee Center in downtown Asheville. Whether you're interested in fine craft, looking for handmade work, or simply enjoy seeing what regional artists are creating, it's a wonderful event and well worth a visit.
I'll share more about the jury process and the results of my application after the show.
